I have been looking for an excuse to throw a fun little outdoor party all summer and finally decided to just do it before the weather wouldn't allow it. (Loren's parents graciously let us use their backyard and take over their kitchen). It was the perfect night with good friends, food, and atmosphere, the only thing missing was the Hacketts :(

I guess I should have checked the dimensions while I was ordering it because I was not expecting to pull this out of the box! I think I laughed for 20 minutes. I knew it would have to be big enough to spit these out, I just underestimated it's hugeness. A friend said I would pretty much be walking around with a printer hanging off my neck :)

It is a fun camera though, here are some pictures I took with it in California a few weeks ago.

There is not enough that can be said about being surrounded by family and friends. We love them all and are very blessed to have them in our lives.

Tuscany

It was so much fun to have my mom with me for the week in Tuscany! We had such a great time. We stayed at a 1,700 acre working farmhouse, the food was amazing. The countryside was beautiful but I was a little disappointed that they had just tilled all of the fields, so we weren't able to see as many rolling green Tuscan hillsides. It was still amazing though, I think my mom caught the travel bug on this trip...who could blame her :)

So, my boss does photography workshops in Italy every year and I was lucky enough to get to go and help out with it this year. We were there for two weeks, one week on the Italian Riviera two days in Florence and a second week in Tuscany. Loren spent the first week with me and my mom came over for the second week. We had a blast getting to know new people and visiting different cities every day. We would do short photography classes in the morning and then spend the rest of the day traveling to surrounding areas seeing little villages, monasteries, beaches. Here are some pictures from the first week. I'll post more from the second week later to split it up.

I forgot I had taken this picture. We have the cutest pair of ducks that wonder our neighborhood. We will see them sitting in little puddles or crossing the street. They were in our front yard one day and we opened the front door and sat on the porch for a minute and feed these two. They were so cute and I instantly chided Loren for duck hunting, I just can't think about it. In my mind they catch them, pet them and let them fly away, it's better that I am delusional about this one.

I was walking out of work for a lunch break yesterday and had to stop for a minute because the air smelled so nice. The peonies (one of my favorite flowers) had just opened and one of the rose bushes had just bloomed, everything was green and the temperature was perfect and I felt totally content with the world. I love those moments, and it seems like I get more of them in the summer :)

I'm finally coming back from my blogging hiatus. We've been to St. George twice since I last posted and it's now Spring instead of Winter. Maybe that's what I needed, some sunshine.

Our first stop to sunny St. George was with our friends Tad and Emily and Brad and Courtney. We had the chance to have a FREE hot air balloon ride...how could we resist.

I'm going through a "blogging feels like a chore" phase. However, I have been busy since my last post.

We went up to Idaho for Thanksgiving and stayed for four and a half days (longer than our usual weekend).

Christmastime at Busath is pretty crazy, it was nice to be so busy, but also nice to have a break afterwards.

We survived the holidays, I had most of our Christmas shopping done by November (that has never happened). Loren made it through 2 surgeries in one week at the beginning of December (they were both planned, nothing life threatening), and has been recovering for the last month. He just started physical therapy for his shoulder surgery last week and is antsy to get working again. Neither of us are really homebodies, so it has been a little rough for him not being busy. He has also been studying to take the last portion of the test to get his Contractors License at the end of the week.

We spent a lot of time with Loren's family while his brother Parker and his wife Amorette were in town for Christmas. This last week brought a lot of time with friends and members of my family staying with us for four nights.

My brother Justin just got engaged and will be getting married in May.

Needless to say, we have been truly blessed this year and continue to count our blessings, like my Grandpa used to say, "we're worse than some, but better than most." We are so lucky to have such great family and friends and hope you all have a great New Year!!

Well, since I have been tagged twice, I figured I had better just go ahead and do this :)
Six quirky things about me:
1. When I like a song, I listen to it over and over and over, probably much to the dismay of everyone around me!
2. I love office supplies. Pencils, pens, Sharpies, paper, calendars, desk organizers, pencil holders. Weird, I know, but go to www.seejanework.com and you may soon share my obsession.
3. I own (and continue to buy) way too much eye shadow. Then, every morning, when I am putting my make up on I use.....you guessed it, the same one every day!!
4. I count my steps in sets of eight. Not ALL the time, but I will catch myself doing it sometimes.
5. I am a night owl. I could stay up until 2:00 in the morning and not get anything accomplished (mostly when Loren is out of town).
6. When I get in bed and fall asleep I wake up in the exact position I went to sleep in. I can literally fold the blanket back, get out of bed and put the blanket back down and the bed looks totally undisturbed.

So, everyone else probably already knows about Pandora, but I just found out about it the other day. Pandora is a streaming internet radio channel basically. You go to pandora.com and create a free account. You type in an artist or a song that you like and Pandora finds songs that have similar vocals, tonality, rhythm, style etc. and plays them on their own "station". You can give the song a thumbs up or a thumbs down to help guide them towards which sound you like. Also, you can bookmark a song or artist or buy it right then on iTunes. This has been so great for me because I am at a computer most of the day and get really tired of my same music over and over and have a hard time discovering new music. I have found some good new tunes.

Idaho

I was in Idaho over the weekend to see my nephew get baptized. Loren couldn't come with me because he had a guys weekend/golf tournament/fishing to tend to. Since Loren wasn't with me I was able to get together with some friends that I have known forever but hardly get to see (we're talking years here).
On Friday night I got together with my friends Rachael and Sherstine that I have known since I was 5 (we were in the same ward) and Hillary who I met when I was 10 (when we moved into her ward). We had dinner, talked and made hair clips (they have daughters, I made some for my niece). It was so fun to catch up and hear what everyone has going on in their lives right now.
The next morning I went to the Boise Farmer's Market and to lunch with my high school friend Celeste. Then I went to the baptism and to dinner with my family. Later that night my friend Debbie (who I've also known since I was 10) happened to be in town from Washington came over with her boyfriend and we reminisced for a couple of hours. All in all it was a great weekend for renewing friendships and catching up!

We went up to Wyoming for a couple of days at the beginning of the week. We camped for three days, two in Star Valley and one in Teton National Park at Colter Bay. We had fun spending some time in Jackson Hole, hiking in the Tetons, meeting up with friends and fly fishing (I caught my first fish).

We are so lucky to have this just a 10 minute drive and a 20 minute hike from our house.

Sometimes I forget how beautiful our mountains are. Whenever we go up there I think, "Why are we not up here everyday?"
It felt so nice to get out of the house and unwind after work, I highly recommend it :)

I have to admit that the idea of blogging lately hasn't been too exciting to me. This is something that doesn't really need to be explained, just scroll down a bit and you will see a lack of recent posts. I still like to check other people's blogs mind you, I just haven't been that into keeping up on mine.

Loren is on a horse ride with his dad right now so I figured I would take the opportunity to fill you in on what's been happening in the life of the Shaw's:

-Loren spent 4 days fishing the Green River just below Flaming Gorge two weekends ago.

-We went to the Oakley Rodeo with a group of friends on the 3rd and had some good American fun. I enjoyed it all except the calf roping, I hate when they do that.

-We spent the morning of the 4th with each other, and caught up with our friends Kim and Zack for lunch up the canyon, swimming, a delicious impromtu bar-b-que and the longest fireworks show I have ever seen--30 full minutes!!

I don't have pictures to prove any of this, but trust me, it all happened.

Long time, no post...

A lot has happened since my last post. We went to the show STOMP with Loren's mom and dad on the 6th. If you haven't seen it I highly recommend it. I got such a kick out of it. I was sitting in my seat but really just wanted to get up and dance! The next day I had a primary activity in the morning, a get together with my friends from high school in the afternoon (our once a month activity) and then a bar-b-que that night at our house for Loren's 29th birthday!
We hadn't been up to Kuna since my brother's wedding in January. This last weekend we headed up for my nephew, Hayden's, blessing and Father's Day. I had only seen pictures of Hayden since he was born so it was fun to see him in real life. Also, I can't remember the last time I had been with my dad ON Father's Day. It's so nice to get together with my whole family and whenever we go up we get to spend a lot of time with them.

This was the only picture I got of Hayden, while he was asleep, I don't know what I was thinking not taking more!

Well, we got back from Kaua'i on Monday and we already wish we could go back! Loren's parents were awesome and spoiled us by taking the whole family to their time-share at the Marriott for our Christmas present. In December it felt like May would never come and here I am blogging about it already! We had more fun than you could shake a stick at. We laid at the beach, played frisbee, swam, went hiking on the amazing Na Pali Coast, swam in a waterfall, snorkeled at several beaches, swam with a sea turtle (Loren did anyway-I missed it), kayaked, water skiied, ate great food and had fun times with the whole family!

I've used these "vases" for a couple of years now and thought I would pass the idea along. Schweppes sells their ginger ale in these pretty green glass bottles. I loved the color so much that I peeled the labels off and have been using them as large bud vases. You can make a plain bouquet into something unexpected. Sometimes I put them all over the house. I got these frilly tulips from Costco for $9.00, tomorrow we're having Loren's family over for Mother's Day and I think I'll use them down the middle of the table for a centerpiece.

Loren finished his first Century (100 miles) yesterday!! I am so proud of him! I wasn't there to see him come across the finish line but he was pretty excited to finish. Thanks to our friend Hans who helped push him on for the last 30 miles. Loren was pretty grateful when he saw him on the road.

We had a great time in St. George with friends this weekend. We kept pretty busy with bike riding, climbing, laying by the pool and eating at In-N-Out. We couldn't have asked for better weather or better people to spend the weekend with!!

1. The Hills

I like this show far more than I should. I'm not crazy where I get on chat rooms about it or anything, but I am addicted. I have no idea why I find the lives of the people on this show so interesting but I can't miss a week of it. I'm sure the show if geared more towards high school girls rather than someone who is 25 and married, I just can't help myself.

2. Lean Cuisine Macaroni and Cheese
I could probably eat this for lunch every day and not get sick of it. It calls my name and I crave it, I just can't say no.

I could look at this website all day. They have everything on here. A search for earrings yields about 7,000 matches, that could keep a girl busy for a while.

Last Saturday Loren and I and our friend Steve went fishing near Logan. I didn't fish, but I pulled on the wadders and followed with my camera. I was told I got a secret glimpse into what goes on in their man world and was sworn to secrecy (it was pretty much what I expected, not much talking and more un-snagging line than catching fish). It was the perfect day-sunny and cool enough for a jacket. Here's a couple of pictures from the day.

Loren and I were on a walk on Sunday playing around with our new camera. We discovered the "sports" setting were it rapid fires and takes a bunch of pictures in a row. There was nothing moving around us so I told Loren to "do something". He just ran and jumped and this was one of the shots I got. I have been laughing over this picture all day! Something about it is so funny to me. It's like when you start laughing and can't stop even though what made you laugh in the first place wasn't even that funny.

Here we are at Alta for our girls activity in February. They offer "ski for free after three" everyday so how could we resist! Plus, Libby hadn't gone skiing (she snowboards) since we had ski night in elementary school, so it was perfect for teaching her. She did really good, only one mishap getting on the lift (it's okay Lib, it has happened to everyone!).
Give me FREE skiing anytime, I'll take it!

I dedicate this post to my mom, Kathy, who turns 51 on February 1st! She probably wouldn't appreciate me telling everyone how old she is, but since she doesn't look 51 I'm taking my chances :) She is one of those moms who is always on time, always organized and always available when you need her. I've been meaning to update this for a while. I'm either a really boring person or I can't come up with clever things to post. Probably a touch of both. Well, we had a very nice Christmas and New Years. We stayed in Salt Lake for Christmas. We had a couple of fun family parties, did our own thing Christmas morning and then went to Loren's parents house for the afternoon and evening. We spent New Years with Steve, Emma and Luke down in St. George. It was nice to get away from the bitter cold that has been Salt Lake lately.
On January 4th we were in Boise for my brother Joey's wedding. He and his wife, Michelle, were married on the 4th and had their reception on the 5th. It was so nice to see so many people that I haven't seen for so long. Here are a couple of pics.

First Ski of the Season!!

Well, we finally made it up skiing for the first time this season! We went up to Snowbird on Saturday and it was absolutely freezing, especially standing in line, but we still had fun. We could only take pictures at the car because it was so cold the camera wouldn't work!! We had to warm it up before we could get it to function (much like my fingers)!

Oh Christmas Tree

Here is our cute little Christmas tree! We have had an artificial one for the last couple of years, but this year we decided to get a real one. Isn't it the perfect tree? Smells nice too. I love coming home from work to a tree in the house, so festive.

It is so cold with all the snow lately. Skiing sounds nice and there is something cozy about bundling up. Every time I go outside I try to imagine summertime and I can't even think about being in a short sleeve shirt with sandals! It doesn't even seem like it will ever be possible. I am already looking forward to warm weather!!

Girls Day

So, some friends from high school and I have started a once a month get together. We all grew up in Kuna (Idaho) and went to school together, after we graduated we all ended up in Utah. It's so fun to keep in touch and keep up on what we are all doing. Last month we made earrings at my house and this month we made carmel apples at Libby's.

Summer in review

With the holidays approaching and the cold weather settling in I thought it would be nice to re-live some of our summer memories.

We had the chance to go to San Francisco with our friends Steve and Emma and their little boy Luke. We stayed at Emma's parents house (thanks Steve and Sally for feeding us, being our tour guides, and letting us use your car!).
